Inside The Shop
BR Hilton, 4026 Old State Road, Newton, NC 28658 704-462-1304 |
BR looks forward each day to the time spent in the shop his father, Boyd Shuford Hilton, worked in for so many years. Fond remembrances of his father can be found in his hand-made pottery tools and pottery in various stages placed on shelves by his father in 1985. BR is carrying the Hilton family of potters' tradition of excellence into the 21st century. Traditions established long ago are alive and well in the family shop BR occupies. *Quotes To Enjoy *One day Boyd Hilton was asked why he did not "smudge" the bottoms of his swirl to camouflage the technique that he had developed and he replied, "If anyone is crazy enough to try to make swirl they need all the help they can get. " *Once Boyd Hilton was reflecting on a successful pottery show and said, "We did well. I guess what we need are more friends with money that like pots!" *Boyd Hilton would also quote Aunt Maude Cobb Hilton regularly with, "Well, Boyd, you don't know what you've got 'till it comes out of the kiln." *Linda Hilton Long also has fond memories of growing up in the Blackburn homeplace. "I am very proud of my brother for doing something he loves, and continuing our family history and heritage in pottery. Our father always encouraged us to do what we loved, and now that Bob has retired from the corporate world, I'm so glad he has an interest in that tradition and is keeping it alive." *BR takes his special place in pottery history all in stride and is modest with his accomplishments when he is heard to say, "I'm just a maker of crooked little pots. I'm not an artist-I just make pots." Home Biography Gallery Kiln Openings Shows Directions Boyd Hilton Family Pottery The Shop |
